Established in the mid 1960’s, GT Towing are now in to their third generation of the Thurgood family and we pride ourselves in aiming to offer exceptional service, by well-trained and experienced staff, whilst offering very good value for money both in-store and on-line. Initially established as a supplier of towbars and trailers, a natural progression into caravans was made in the mid 1980's with the acquisition of an established caravan centre.
We are privileged to act as distributors for most of the leading brands within our industry and our NTTA approved workshops can offer a range of services from towbar installation to caravan insurance repairs – with a waiting room for those ‘while-you-wait’ jobs.
We keep stocks of various domestic and commercial use trailers - a hire fleet too - and, since the closure of our Potters Bar shop, we have an extensive range of roof racks & roof boxes under one roof at our shop between Hatfield and the village of Welham Green.
1967
GT Towing Ltd is founded.
In 1967, Gordon Thurgood founded GT Towing Ltd.
1972
GT Towing Ltd enters its 2nd Generation
In 1972, Sally Smyth, daughter of Gordon Thurgood, became the first of four within the second generation to join the company. Paul Thurgood joined in 1974, Amanda Miller joined in 1975 & Adam Thurgood joined in 1979.
1977
GT Towing Ltd moves to Potters Bar
In 1977, GT Towing Ltd moved in to Potters Bar High Street, where we opened our first retail store & show room, as well as towbar fitting workshops.
1986
GT Towing Opens Welham Green Branch
In 1986, GT Towing Ltd expanded by opening a new shop and workshops on a 7 acre site.
1988
GT Towing Ltd becomes Ifor Williams dealer
In 1988, GT Towing Ltd became an Ifor Williams main dealer - The worlds leading trailer manufacturer.
1994
GT Towing Ltd launches its first website!
In 1994, GT Towing Ltd launched it's first ever website - The first company in our industry to do so!
1995
GT Towing LTD Becomes Bailey Caravan Dealer
In 1995, GT Towing Ltd became a main Bailey Caravan dealer.
2001
GT Towing Ltd enters its 3rd Generation
In 2001, GT Towing Ltd moved in to its Third Generation, when Tom Thurgood, son of Paul Thurgood, joined the company. 10 years later in 2011, a second member of the third generation, Lucas Thurgood, son of Adam Thurgood, then joined GT Towing Ltd.
