New Ifor Williams Unbraked Trailers

Ifor Williams unbraked trailers range from compact trailers for everyday jobs through to larger 750kg models suited to bulkier loads, machinery and regular light commercial use.

The best model will depend on what you plan to carry, how much space you need and the maximum unbraked towing capacity of your vehicle.

Model
Internal bed size
Gross weight options
Good for
P5eApprox. 1.53m × 1.02m500kgSmaller loads, DIY, gardening, camping and occasional use
P6e1.98m × 1.21m500kg or 750kgGeneral domestic use, landscaping and light commercial work
P7e2.21m × 1.21m500kg or 750kgLonger loads, regular work and general-purpose use
P8e2.51m × 1.45m750kgLarger loads, mowers, ATVs and bulkier equipment

P5e, P6e, P7e or P8e?

The P5e is the most compact option and is well suited to lighter everyday jobs where a larger trailer would be unnecessary.

The P6e gives you considerably more bed length while remaining relatively compact. It is a useful all-rounder for domestic jobs, gardening, landscaping and lighter commercial work.

The P7e keeps a similar width to the P6e but offers additional bed length, making it useful when you regularly carry longer or larger loads.

The P8e is the largest of these models, with a wider and longer load bed. It is particularly useful for bulkier equipment and loads where the additional floor space matters.

500kg or 750kg Unbraked Trailer?

Some Ifor Williams unbraked models are available in both 500kg and 750kg gross weight versions.

The gross weight is the maximum permitted combined weight of the trailer and everything loaded into it. This is different from payload, which is the amount of weight you can actually carry once the trailer's own weight is taken into account.

A 750kg model can therefore offer additional carrying capacity, but that does not automatically mean your car can tow 750kg unbraked. Always check the vehicle manufacturer's maximum unbraked towing limit before choosing your trailer.

Unbraked Trailer FAQs

Which Ifor Williams unbraked trailer is best for general use?

The P6e is a good all-round option for many domestic and light commercial jobs. If you regularly need more bed length, the P7e provides additional space, while the larger P8e is better suited to bulkier loads and equipment.

What is the difference between a 500kg and 750kg trailer?

The figure refers to the trailer’s maximum gross weight, including the trailer itself and its load. A 750kg trailer can generally carry more than a comparable 500kg version, but your vehicle must still be approved to tow the loaded trailer.

Can my car tow a 750kg unbraked trailer?

Not necessarily. Although an unbraked trailer cannot exceed 750kg when loaded, individual vehicles can have lower maximum unbraked towing limits. Always check your vehicle manufacturer’s stated towing capacity before choosing a trailer.

Is a ramp or tailboard better?

A ramp is particularly useful when loading wheeled equipment such as lawnmowers or machinery. A tailboard is a simpler option if you usually lift loads directly into the trailer. The best choice depends on what you plan to transport.

What does trailer payload mean?

Payload is the amount of weight the trailer can carry. It is calculated by subtracting the trailer’s unladen weight from its permitted gross weight. Accessories fitted to the trailer can also reduce the available payload.

What is the difference between the Ifor Williams P range and Q range?

The P range is a versatile choice for domestic, leisure and light commercial use. The Q range is designed for tougher agricultural and professional applications and includes features such as higher sides and leaf-spring suspension.

Do unbraked trailers need servicing?

Yes. Although they do not have a braking system, components including the wheel bearings, tyres, coupling, suspension, lights and chassis still need to be checked and maintained. GT Towing services and repairs unbraked trailers from its Hertfordshire workshop.
